DIY depends on more than just producers. It is an interconnected network of skills that would be impossible for a singular entity to cover.
Producers are of course always talked about the most, whether they be MA networks or online storefronts, but what all producers rely on (if they’re worth anything) is testing.
This is one of the biggest barriers, and comes with a number of both logstical and costly issues. Testsalone can run 120$+ each on the low end. In addition expensive, risky overseas shipping and long wait times. For personal or smaller ops who *should* be verifying their raws and finalized products, this is oftentimes unattainable and is even a stressor for larger groups.
Othertimes, people have relied on a single source for actual blind third party testing through transharmreduction. That is not to take away from the good they have done, but fundamentally how much one group can do is limited. All love to THR.
So i’d like to proudly share two testing sources i’ve stumbled upon that seem to have started recently. They’re both in a much more accessible place for many turning to DIY at the moment and can run samples for a much lower, or no cost.
This is a bigger step forward (albiet a quieter one) than most people would ever realize, and make starting up a brewop or even a small local op MUCH MUCH easier and safer.
As always, if you’re giving it out to others, please test your products beforehand.
At the risk of this being too long of a blogpost, just wanted to share a lot of love to both admins of these services. If any more start up please shoot me an email and i’d be happy to consider mentioning them.
